Rugby league at Allianz Stadium

June in Sydney, right in the middle of winter, really is one of the best times to enjoy the footy – and this was a perfect example of why.

I was lucky enough to know someone who managed to get my dad and me into the box seats at Allianz Stadium to watch the rugby league. Not just any game either, but my team, the mighty Sydney Roosters, taking on the North Queensland Cowboys.

Winter footy just hits differently. Walking into the stadium with that crisp cold air outside, then settling into a warm box with a great view of the field, felt like the best of both worlds. The food was alright -nothing too fancy – but the real highlight was the fridge, well stocked with all kinds of booze, meaning there was plenty to go around, and the mood stayed high all game.

Sharing the experience with Dad made it even more special. Sitting together, talking footy, watching the plays develop, and soaking up the atmosphere of live National Rugby League reminded me how good these simple moments can be.

And to top it all off, the Roosters came out on top. A win always makes the day sweeter, and in this case, it really was the cherry on top.

If there’s one thing I’d recommend during a Sydney winter, it’s getting to an NRL game at Allianz Stadium – especially if you’re watching the Sydney Roosters. Rug up, enjoy the atmosphere, and let the footy do the rest.
